mosh for links where SSH feels broken
On mobile networks or long-haul links, SSH typing latency is painful once packets drop. mosh runs over UDP, echoes locally and reconnects after a drop.
apt install mosh
mosh user@host
The costs: UDP ports 60000–61000 must be open; port forwarding, X11 and agent forwarding are unavailable, so those still need SSH; and the server needs mosh-server.
On security, mosh authenticates and exchanges keys over SSH, then encrypts with AES-OCB. That is not weak, but the audit surface differs from SSH.
My habit: mosh for interactive work, ssh for forwarding and scp. They coexist fine.
